Bandaging is, next to Manual Lymph Drainage according to Dr. Vodder, another pillar in the therapy of lymphedema.
Bandaging
Mode of action: Bandaging supports the venous backflow, boosts the lymphatic backflow and helps in softening fibrosis.
Fibrosis are changes in the texture of the skin which could often appear in cases of edema-related illnesses. The proteins contained in the tissue lead to hardening of the skin.
Materials: As part of our treatment of lymphedema, we have adopted bandages from the Lohmann-Rauscher company. We distinguish between short-stretch and long-stretch bandages.
Bandaging materials come with a variety of different characteristics and have a certain effect on edematous arms or legs.
Compression Stockings
At the end of the second week of a stay that usually lasts three weeks, and following the prescription made by the physician, a trained employee will proceed to the measurements required to obtain individually adjusted compression stockings. The patient will keep the stockings after the stay.
Effect: Depending on the length of time one wears it on a daily basis, the success of the stationary stay, which in itself aims reduce the edema, will be maintained. It will furthermore facilitate the venous and lymphatic backflow and replace the missing tissue pressure.
Materials: When it comes to compression stockings, we work primarily in collaboration with Jobst. Two types of products exist: flat knitted and round knitted.
Flat knitted: thicker, with a seam, higher compression grades, many possibilities for custom-made products, good wearing comfort.
Round knitted: thinner, seamless, lower compression grades, good wearing comfort, fewer possibilities for custom-made products.
Round knitted stockings are available in 3 compression grades while flat knitted stockings are produced in 6 different compression grades.
